Alone In The Dark Anthology

Alone in the Dark (tentative title) will feature the outer spectrums of horror and will be edited by Kody Boye and published in a 6x9 tradepaperback via Lulu.com.

Looking for tales of different kinds of horror that go beyond the normal variety of monsters, vampires, werewolves and zombies (though if your tale is COMPLETELY different and includes one or more of those monsters, send it in. It's unlikely We'll accept stories that are straight of that genre unless they are brilliant.) We're tired of seeing that kind of horror done over several times and want to see horror that is different, horror that is different but at the same time sticks to the common genre that horror is: scary, surreal and/or weird.

The horror we are looking for should be different, as stated above. It can be a monster tale if you want it to be, but it most be different/unique/or brilliant enough for us to accept it. The horror can be of any kind of type (paranormal, modern, bizzare) and can feature creatures, serial killers, and that other kind of stuff. I want something that can blow me out of the ballpark, and if you can do that you're guaranteed acceptance in. The theme must be horror; straight horror. No science fiction, no fantasy, nothing of that sort. If your tale is somewhat of a western setting it needs to have horror. It should generally stick to the ways of people 'being afraid or wary of the dark' for some reason or another. It doesn't even have to have a monster in it, but if you can pull of the main character[s] being afraid of the dark without one, do so.

Currently paying $5.00, but this could change if they get a traditional place to pick it up (which would require good fiction). For now, though, five dollars is all they're paying, and they'll be accepting around ten-thirteen stories depending on their length,

WHAT RIGHTS?

First print rights, exclusive print rights one year from the time of publication. You as the author retain the right to the story and may submit it after that one-year period.

HOW LONG SHOULD MY STORY BE?

Due to me not being able to pay for longer stories (novellas and other stories) your story should be 3,000-5,000 words. If you want to submit something longer, query first. Be forewarned, I will pay the same five dollars even if the story is longer.

HOW DO I SUBMIT?

Send the file as an attachment (.DOC or .RTF, don't place it as a PDF or HTML or other document) to kodyboye@q.com . Stories should be double-spaced and use Times New Roman or Arial font at 12 pt. size. Don't copy or paste your story into the email. Contact information and word count at the top of the first page of the document on the first page.

Include a bio, story publication history and other relevant information in the body of the email.

WHAT'S THE DEADLINE?

I will read until Halloween or until the anthology is filled.

WHAT'S THE READING TIME?

Stories we like will generally be held until submissions close. Rejections will go out in four-six weeks.

HOW DO I KNOW YOU'VE RECEIVED MY SUBMISSION?

I will email you as soon as I get the story.

WHAT ABOUT MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS?

Don't send more than one story at a time. You may send another if your story is rejected.

SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS?

You may send your story to other markets as well, just be sure to tell us if your story is accepted by another market.

ARE YOU GOING TO GIVE ME A DETAILED RESPONSE IF YOU REJECT MY STORY?

I will try to, but don't expect it. I always try to tell the authors what I did or didn't like about the stories.

LIMITS ON WRITING?

No, not as far as general things go. I don't want to see any abuse to children, animals or necrophillia. Other than that, there's no limits as long as it fits within the story. Also, no hardcore sexual stories. There can be a little, but many times it doesn't help with stories.

DO YOU NEED A COVER ARTIST?

Yes, and cover artists will receive the five dollars plus a copy of the book. I'd do so for the contributors, but the cover artist makes the book flashy. Send me samples with 'Cover Artist' and samples or links to your samples to kodyboye@q.com.
