Blood Bound Books

We are currently accepting submissions for our first three anthologies. Please review themes and deadlines for each below.

NIGHT TERRORS: An Anthology of Horror

Blood Bound Books is pleased to announce that our first anthology, will also be a short story contest. All winners will be published in the print anthology Night Terrors, with the following payments:

1st Place - $.05 per word
2nd Place - $.01 per word
3rd Place - 1/2 cent per word

Runners-up - Flat rate of $ 5

Night Terrors will be an open themed anthology of horror. Stories can range from 750 - 5,000 words (query for longer) and must be rooted in the realms of horror/dark fiction. Science fiction and dark fantasy will be considered as long as it has a strong element of horror. Try to avoid classic horror conventions, unless you incorporate a new twist. Remember, evil has no boundaries and neither do we! Nothing is off limits, so take advantage of the freedom. We'll accept stories in any setting or time period, as long as it's well written, powerful and original. Most importantly, scare us. We want to be haunted by your story long after we put it down. Gore and sex are acceptable, as long as it serves a purpose. If we start receiving an abundance of common themed stories, I will update this page so authors have a better idea of what we still need, but for now it's wide open.

Send all submissions to : submissions@bloodboundbooks.net.

Night Terrors: story title/author last name

Check our guidelines page for manuscript formatting . Stories will be accepted until March 13, 2010. We will not make final selections until the end of the reading period. Please do not query about the status of your submission until April 13, 2010.

UNSPEAKABLE : A New Breed of Terror

Unspeakable will be an anthology of creature stories. They may dwell in caves or under water. In deep forests or windblown deserts. Perhaps they lurk in the shadows of our very own homes. But regardless of origin, these ancient, nameless beasts are awake and they want you. We're looking for your best creature stories 750 -5,000 words. But werewolves and vampires won't cut it here, we want a new breed of creatures and original plots. Get creative. Gore and sex are acceptable as long as they are integral to the plot. However, blood is not essential. Some monsters may hunger for something besides flesh.

Accepted stories will be paid a flat rate of $5.00. In the future we hope to raise that rate and open up more contests and opportunities for professional payments. But until Blood Bound Books gets established this is the best we can do.

D.O.A

This is the one that goes all the way! D.O.A. will be a shocking anthology unsuitable for the faint of heart. We want stories 750 -5,000 words, that push the limits. The crazier, stranger and gorier the better. No subject is taboo. However, with that in mind, we are not simply looking for torture stories containing no point or direction. Blood and guts only work if there is a great story and creative twists to back it up. The best way to describe what we're looking for is to imagine that the guys from Cannibal Corpse got together with Richard Matheson and penned a story. The result would be D.O.A. So if you ever had a story idea that you felt was too extreme or offensive for a sane publisher, then send it our way. We want your worst!

Accepted stories will be paid a flat rate of $5.00. In the future we hope to raise that rate and open up more contests and opportunities for professional payments. But until Blood Bound Books gets established this is the best we can do.
